To My Little Sister From an Only Child is a mentoring book for young women. It is what I would tell my little sister if I had one, and is intended as a young woman's guide for professional success.
It contains three sections. The first, To Be or Not to Be, deals with what it takes to achieve professional success -- the drive, ambition, discipline and desire to channel dreams into reality.
The second, Success: How to Get There and Upon Arriving, tackles the real world issues of becoming a professional woman. It addresses how to get a job and what it's like in the professional world once you are a part of it. It includes such things as dealing with gender issues, using the power of being female to your advantage, the reality of workplace politics, and the art of self-promotion.
The final section, Success and Your Personal Life, discusses how your personal life is affected by your professional success, and similarly, how your professional life can be affected, both positively and negatively, by your personal life.
To My Little Sister From an Only Child is inspirational, while at the same time does not lose touch with the real hurdles young women face professionally. It is an extension of an experienced hand not to hold young women down but rather to help propel them along so that their success will surpass those of the women who have come before them.
